DICED Pilot manual

Start screen

The start screen shows either snapshots or cutscenes in the background to get an impression of what's in the game.

  • Show manual on web page
  • Visit diced pilot website
  • Settings
  • Toggle snapshots or cutscenes
  • Show help texts
  • Play/start game
  • Quit game
  • Show next snapshot/cutscene

Desktop version: Alt-enter key combination toggles fullscreen.
Backspace: Quit game.

Clicking anywhere creates explosion and destruction.



Player select screen

Here you can select an existing player or create a new one.

Create a new player by selecting one of the last four aliens (Goo'edred, Yaraham,Yamita or Zetherica).

  • Back button - go back to start screen
  • Settings button - open settings dialog
  • Previous button - Scroll back one item
  • Next button - Scroll forward one item
  • Fast rewind button - Scroll back 5 items
  • Show help texts
  • Start button - choose this player and select level pack
  • Fast forward button - Scroll forward 5 items

Enter a name for the player.

After creating a new player it will appear in the player select screen where its progress will be shown.

  • Back button - go back to start screen
  • Settings button - open settings dialog
  • Previous button - Scroll back one item
  • Next button - Scroll forward one item
  • Fast rewind button - Scroll back 5 items
  • Show help texts
  • Start button - choose this player and select level pack
  • Show statistics of player (see below)

Level pack select screen

Here you can select a level pack to play if you unlocked it for the current player.

  • Back button - go back to player select screen
  • Settings button - open settings dialog
  • Previous button - Scroll back one item
  • Next button - Scroll forward one item
  • Fast rewind button - Scroll back 5 items
  • Show help texts
  • Start button - choose this pack and next select a level
  • Statistics button - Shows the statistics of the current player
  • Fast forward button - Scroll forward 5 items


Level select screen

Here you can select a level to play if you unlocked it for the current player.

  • Back button - go back to level pack select screen
  • Settings button - open settings dialog
  • Previous button - Scroll back one item
  • Next button - Scroll forward one item
  • Fast rewind button - Scroll back 5 items
  • Show help texts
  • Start button - play level
  • Statistics button - Shows the statistics of the current player
  • Fast forward button - Scroll forward 5 items

After the level is selected you can choose the player vessel here.



Game screen

When a level is loaded the game dynamics start and the time runs after the player has moved.

  • Pauze button - pauzes the game showing other buttons as seen below:

In pauze mode the following buttons are available:
  • Back button - go back to level select screen
  • Snapshot button - Take a snapshot of the current situation and save it to your snapshot collection
  • Settings button - open settings dialog
  • Restart button - Restarts the current game
  • Show help texts
  • Play button - resumes the game
  • Statistics button - Shows the statistics of the current player
  • Next button - Go to the next level (must be unlocked)

When the game is paused the view can be zoomed in or out using the mouse scroll wheel, the z and x keys or pinch zoom on touch devices.

Game controls

Keyboard/Mouse

  • A - move left
  • D - move right
  • W - jump or jetpack
  • R - immediate restart
  • Space - fire: fires in the direction of movement or use the mouse to aim and fire
  • Esc - pauze
  • Space - start
  • Backspace - go back
  • X - zoom in (when pauzed)
  • Z - zoom out (when pauzed)
Key bindings can be configured in Keyboard settings dialog, see below.

Touch controls

  • move left
  • move right
  • jump or jetpack
  • fire weapon if any, fires in the direction of movement
  • Touch the screen anywhere to fire in that direction as demonstrated by my son in the video below:

Game controllers

Supported controllers (at this time):

  • Xbox 360 controller on desktop
  • NVIDIA Shield controller on Android

Note that a controller must be connected and turned on before starting the game.

  • Left stick - move left/right
  • Right stick - aim and fire weapon if any, fires directly in that direction
  • or jump or jetpack
  • or or fire weapon if any, fires in the direction of movement
  • start game/next screen
  • pause game/go back

Settings dialog

In the settings dialog you can choose to configure the following: audio, display, options, controls.

Audio dialog

Adjust the volume of the music and sound and possibly disable or enable them.

Display dialog (Desktop)

Adjust screenshake, fullscreen and button size in main screens

Display dialog (Android)

Adjust screenshake, button size in main screens and visual effects (option to turn this off for better performance on very slow devices)

Options dialog

  • Respawn time - Adjust the time to respawn after getting killed
  • Show ghost - Show the leaderboard leader recorded movements as a ghost player
  • Cheat a bit - Cheat by starting with an indefinite shield powerup
  • Cheat a lot - Cheat by starting with an indefinite shield powerup, a jetpack and a weapon

Controls dialog

Choose keyboard, mouse or touch control settings from this dialog.

Change the keys used to control the player or reset to default, these settings are stored per player.

Mouse settings dialog

Change the appearance of the mouse cursor when a weapon is active.

Touch controls dialog

  • button size - Adjust the size of the touch controls using a slider
  • button visibility - Adjust the visibility of the touch controls using a slider
  • steering to right - By default the steering controls are located on the left side of the screen, to swap them to the right use this option
  • swap jump/fire - By default the jump button is on the right side of the fire button, to swap their position use this option
